Tidal Passages
Curiosity is powerful. It stems from passion, excitement, and optimism, and balances out self-preserving behavioral drivers. Curiosity isn't fear, pessimism, or apathy...it cannot be. There’s an unavoidable intrigue when you come upon a cave, or a path into the woods, and you don’t know where it goes. There’s a satisfaction in pursuing the answer, but always a disappointment once a finite answer is had. Childhood is experiencing this fascination with the world, holding the belief that the answer might be magical. In adulthood we still try to grasp a moment of that feeling, that going down that path might take us on an adventure. This is the value of fantasy elements in art. It creates room for uncertainty and possibility.
Feeling the intrigue of possibilities and the quelching of that emotion once the answer is had must be ubiquitous to the human experience. There is something in all of us left craving more, leaving our imagination sparked, when we don’t have all the answers.
